So, as well as spreading my half-baked liberal notions about what film should and should not be, I made a short film on Super 8. Into The Woods (2010) (in your face cliché haters!) is a thriller about a man looking for his wife’s killer that, following numerous re-edits, re-re-edits and restructuring, I entered into the Guernsey Lily International Non-Commercial Film Festival (Guernsey being where I refer to as ‘back home’).
Anyway, I have now been informed that my little film has been classed as ‘Very Highly Commended’ and awarded the trophy for ‘Best Channel Islands Entry’ which has me grinning from ear to ear and perusing Ebay for a director’s riding crop, beret and jodhpurs. The actual awards ceremony is in October so expect some photos of me and my big head holding a trophy aloft (plus a full write up) at a later date.
In the meantime I would like to thank my friends Owen Dennis, Cori Fini, Dan Tall, Gareth Edwards and Chris Ayres and my wife Katie for their formidable acting/crew/’could you just…?’ skills and patience.
Also, thanks to Marc Morris of the brilliant Cult Movie Forums for coming to my rescue with some technical transfer assistance and the team at Blue Cinetech, the best value suppliers of Super 8 film, processing and telecine services in the UK.
Finally, and this a big one, many many thanks to Dale Acton, Tim and Sarah-Jane Langlois of Langlois Photography and, last but not least, Generali International Limited for their generous financial support without which my short film could not have been made.
So, as you can imagine, I’m pretty happy about this and feeling a little proud that something I’ve made has been appreciated by others… plus it’s given me the confidence to keep going and crank up the old Super 8 for another bit of filming fun.
Also, for anyone else thinking about making their own film, go for it and take it from me that there are a surprising amount of people and companies who will support you if you only ask!

well done, sir!

Oh, good.
Well done. Will the movie find its way onto an internet friendly format so we can see it?
Congrats! That’s so awesome. I, too, would love to see it.
Good for you, Tyson. Keep going, man. I’m working on a short right now and keep writing scripts no matter how many rejections I get. My attitude is keep your eyes on the stars no matter what you run into on the way!
good job! i wanna see it!
