In my previous post I reviewed the elegant Romanian film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days and within that review I posited that the subject matter might deter people viewing the film (which would be a shame because it is a very well made piece of cinema).
Later that night, whilst discussing the film with my better half I suddenly wondered why the film had been given an 18 cert. There was certainly no graphic violence or sex and so I managed to get myself into a bit of an outrage that the BBFC should classify a film based solely on it’s subject matter. Disappointingly (because we all love a good outrage) it seems that there has been a bit of a mix up.
The BBFC have actually granted the film a 15 cert. for both cinema and home viewing and it seems that distributors Artificial Eye have made a mistake when it comes to the packaging and most of the internet suppliers have followed suit (including Artificial Eye’s own website).
…so if the 18 cert. was putting you off please don’t let it because it is a mistake. I had an email from Artificial Eye this morning and they said they are going to get it sorted.
i wonder if they presumed it will get a 18 so designed the packaging accordingly ?
