Springfield is quarantined by Homer’s latest shenanigans and so it’s up to the Simpsons to save the town.
Again I seem to be a lone voice in the wilderness. This film is best described as mildly amusing and as a Simpsons fan that is a real disappointment. There is not much more to say really, the film just does not have the satirical edge of the best of the TV show and, bar one or two moments, seems to be aimed at squarely at children. A case in point: Arnie is in the movie or at least he sort of is. The character is clearly Ranier Wolfcastle and so is the voice and yet the character is identified as Arnie. Now I know that Wolfcastle is Arnie etc (and everyone else knows) but the filmmakers have chosen to identify the character as Arnie so that newbies don’t feel like they are missing the gag. Does this matter? Well, I think so. The world’s favourite family are still yellow but, for the first time, they are underestimating their fans, and that is a shame.
Did I expect to much? Possibly. Is it worth going to see? I wouldn’t bother if I were you.
5/10 - catch the repeats on TV, much funnier
